Giving the keys to your hosting to a designer or collaborator can be a little scary. cPanel's Manage Team feature is the safe way to share limited access.

Sometimes, handing over the keys to your hosting account to a designer or collaborator can be a little scary. 😰 The Manage Team feature in cPanel is the perfect solution for you to stop sharing your main password while keeping full control of your account. 🏠🔑

What is it and why should you use it? 🤔

It’s normal to worry about security when working with third parties. In the past, you had to create FTP accounts manually or, even worse, hand over your client password. With this tool, you invite people to your account with specific roles and, if you stop working with them, you revoke access with a single click. 🖱️🚫

How to set up Manage Team step by step 📝

Follow these steps to invite your first collaborator. You’ll see it’s very intuitive:

  1. Log in to your cPanel 🌐: Access it from your client area at miHosting.com.
  2. Find the tool 🔍: In the “Preferences” section, click on Manage Team.
  3. Create an invitation ✉️: Click the blue Create User or Invite button.
  4. Fill in the details ✍️:
  • Full name: Your collaborator’s name.
  • Username: The nickname they’ll use to log in.
  • Email address: Where they’ll receive the official invitation.
  1. Assign a role 🎭: This is the key part. You can choose between:
  • Administrator: Full control of the site.
  • Developer: Access to databases and code files.
  • Website Owner: Focused on content and email management.
  1. Finish ✅: Click send. The system will send them a secure link to set their own password.

The miHosting Pro-Tip 💡

Apply the principle of “least privilege.” 🛡️ Even if you trust your developer a lot, if they’re only going to tweak the CSS design, assign them the Developer role instead of Administrator. This isn’t a lack of trust — it’s standard security: the fewer open doors there are to critical server settings, the lower the risk of an accidental error taking your site offline. 🔌⚠️

So you don’t miss anything: 📌

  • Your main password is sacred 😇: Never share it; always use team invitations.
  • Manage departures 🏃‍♂️: When a project ends, remove the user from the “Manage Team” list immediately.
  • Shared security 🤝: Each collaborator has their own access, which makes it easy to know who did what if something goes wrong.
