Can't access FTP, web, or email but other services work. Why?

Sometimes you may find you can't connect to your domain through one service, but you can through the others. This usually means the server blocked your IP.

Sometimes you may find that you can’t connect to your domain through one service, but you can through the others.

For example, you may be able to view the website, but not connect via FTP. Or the other way around — you can connect via FTP, but can’t view the website.

If this happens to you, it’s a sign that the server has blocked your IP.

Why does the server block your IP?

It’s usually due to failed logins to that service. After a series of failed attempts, the server decides to protect the client, since it understands that the service owner wouldn’t get their password wrong that many times.

What can you do to restore the service?

The easy way is to wait 10 minutes. The block is removed after that time. If you’re in a hurry, call us so a technician can manually unblock your IP.

What can I do to prevent this kind of block?

Basically, don’t insist on connecting to a service if you don’t know your password. The trial-and-error approach will block your access. If you’ve forgotten your password, set a new one. That way you’ll avoid being blocked by the server.

Can I find out the reason for the block?

Yes, it’s easy. Send us an email with your IP address (the one that’s blocked) and we’ll let you know the reason for the block. You can find your IP address at: www.tuip.org

Other reasons for the block include viruses or trojans on your computer. These programs often try to access your email, FTP, or other services by trial and error. That’s why it’s also important to scan your computer to make sure you don’t have any viruses, spyware, or trojans installed.
