Has Your Domain Stopped Working? You Must Verify Your Contact Data
Since January 1, 2014, ICANN requires all domains to be registered by verified users. Learn how to verify your email and restore your domain.
Since January 1, 2014, ICANN has introduced a new requirement for registering domains. Its name in English is the “RAA verification policy.” And all registrars are required to comply with it.
The rule aims to ensure that all domains are registered by real users. To achieve this, any user who registers a new domain receives a
email asking them to verify their email address. The email includes a link that must be clicked, which automatically completes the verification.
It’s a simple process, but a very important one. If you buy a domain and don’t verify it within 15 days, it stops working.
Therefore, as of January 1, 2014, you’ll need to verify your email when you:
- Register a new domain
- Transfer a domain to another registrar
- Change your domain’s contact details
Some common questions are:
My domain has been suspended for lack of verification. What should I do?
The first thing you should do is review all the emails we’ve sent you about your domain name. One of those emails contains the verification link. You most likely overlooked it. Open the email and click the link. Once your details are verified, your domain will start working again immediately. You may notice a slight delay due to DNS propagation, but your domain will soon be back up and running.
My domain has been suspended for lack of verification, but I don’t have any email to verify it with. What should I do?
This situation is uncommon. We could even say it’s unlikely. The most probable explanation is that the verification email slipped by you. In any case, if you definitely can’t find the email we’re referring to, get in touch with our technical support team and we’ll send it to you again.
My domain has been suspended for lack of verification, because the email I provided doesn’t work or I don’t have access to it. What should I do?
In this case, we’ll need to change the email associated with the domain. Send us an email address you can actually read, so we can send you the verification email.
How do I verify my contact details?
You’ll receive an email from our registrar at the email address you provided. The email contains a link — simply by visiting that link, you’re confirming that your details are correct.
What happens if I don’t verify the contact details for my email?
If a domain’s contact details haven’t been verified, the domain is suspended after 15 days. If this has happened to your domain, don’t worry — as soon as you verify the details, your domain will start working again.
Why haven’t I received an email to verify my contact information?
It basically depends on the domain extension you’ve purchased, or whether your details were already verified in the past for other domains.
The extensions that require verification are:
.com .xyz .net .org .info .biz .asia .name .mobi .info
When should I verify my contact information?
As soon as possible, and within 15 days of registering the domain.
Where was the verification code sent?
All emails related to your domain are sent to the domain’s administrative contact — the email address you used when registering the domain.
I can’t find the data verification email for my domain. What can I do?
In this case, you should open a ticket with our support team, and we’ll soon resend it to the same email address you provided when you registered the domain.
How long does it take for the service to be restored once the details have been verified?
It’s usually a quick process. Generally, the domain is available again within an hour, though in the worst case it can take up to 72 hours.
