Email with SSL: Which security certificate can I use?
To use SSL when reading your email, you have two options that won't trigger warning messages.
To use SSL when reading your email, you have two options that won’t trigger any warning messages.
- Use the server’s security certificate where your domain is hosted. This means that when you set up your email, you’ll use the server name as both your incoming and outgoing server to send and receive mail. This way, all of your messages will be encrypted using the server’s security certificate.
- Purchase your own security certificate. For just a few dollars, you can enjoy a dedicated certificate for your domain. This also gives you the advantage of using https:// when visitors browse your website, adding trust for your visitors. With this option, you can use your domain name as the incoming and outgoing server in your email configuration.
If you’d like to use the server’s certificate and aren’t sure what the server name is, open a ticket with our support department and we’ll let you know.
