How to Add an Addon Domain to Your Hosting Step by Step
It's frustrating to register a domain and see nothing load in your browser. It's a common issue: the domain exists, but your hosting doesn't know it yet. Learn how to add an addon domain in cPanel and DirectAdmin.
It’s frustrating to register a domain and see nothing load when you type it into your browser. Don’t worry — it’s a very common issue: the domain exists, but your hosting doesn’t yet know it needs to “receive” it.
For your website to be visible, we first need to give it a space within your account. Here’s how to do it depending on the panel you use at miHosting.
If you use DirectAdmin
This panel is very agile for managing multiple sites. Follow these steps:
- Log in to your DirectAdmin panel.
- Find the “Account Management” section and click on Domain Setup.
- You’ll see a green button or a link that says Add New. Click there.
- In the “Domain” field, type your domain name (example:
tuweb.com) without the “http” or “www”. - Leave the bandwidth and space options on “Same as Main Account” to keep things simple.
- Click Create and you’re done. Your hosting now has a folder ready for that domain’s files.
If you use cPanel
If your plan uses cPanel, the process is just as straightforward:
- Log in to your cPanel with your credentials.
- Scroll down to the “Domains” section and select the Domains option (or “Addon Domains” in older versions).
- Click the blue Create A New Domain button.
- Type your domain in the first text box.
- Important: Make sure the “Share document root” checkbox is not checked if you want this site to be independent from your main domain.
- Click Submit.
miHosting’s “Pro-Tip”: > Once you’ve added the domain to the panel, remember that the Nameservers (DNS) must be pointing to our servers. If you’ve just changed them, the domain can take anywhere from 2 to 24 hours to propagate worldwide. A little patience and you’ll see the results!
Before you close this window, check this:
- Spelling counts: Make sure there are no typos when typing the domain in the panel.
- Public folder: After adding it, you’ll see that a new folder is created in your file manager; that’s where you need to upload your website.
- SSL certificate: Once the domain is added, remember to activate the free SSL from the “SSL Certificates” section so your site is secure (HTTPS).
