What does IMAP mean?
It is a communications protocol used for receiving email.
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol)
It’s a communications protocol used for receiving email.
IMAP is compatible with most current email clients.
The advantages of IMAP are:
- You can access your email from multiple devices at the same time
- Your email is stored on the server.
- You can create an IMAP folder structure to keep your email organized at all times
IMAP therefore replaces POP3 as the communications protocol for reading email.
Why is it better to use IMAP?
The IMAP protocol lets you read your email from many devices, keeping all of them synchronized. This way, when you check your phone, tablet, or computer, all of the different devices show the same email at all times.
Don’t mix POP3 with IMAP
Mixing POP3 and IMAP can only lead to chaos. If you use several devices to read your email, make sure all of them use IMAP.
