How Do I Activate My SSL Certificate in cPanel?

All miHosting plans include free SSL with automatic installation (AutoSSL). We explain how to check it and activate it manually in cPanel.

Introduction

All miHosting hosting plans include a free SSL certificate, regardless of whether it is a basic or advanced plan. In cPanel, this certificate is automatically installed using AutoSSL as soon as the domain correctly points to your hosting, but you can check it or force its installation manually in a few steps.

Here’s a step-by-step video with the full process:

How to check or activate your SSL in cPanel

  1. Access cPanel with your usual data.
  2. Look for the Security section.
  3. Enter SSL/TLS Status or SSL automanager.
  4. Check if your domain (and its subdomains such as www) already have a valid certificate installed; They will appear marked with a green padlock.
  5. If it is not active, select the domain and press Run AutoSSL or Run AutoSSL to force the installation.
  6. Wait a few minutes while the certificate is generated and validated.

Why it may not be active yet

  • The domain does not yet point to miHosting’s DNS, or DNS propagation has not finished.
  • The domain was added very recently and AutoSSL has not been run yet.
  • There is a previous custom certificate that is conflicting.

Useful tips

  • After installing the certificate, force the use of HTTPS on your website so that all visitors use the secure connection.
  • The certificate is automatically renewed every 90 days: you don’t need to do anything as long as the domain continues to point to miHosting.
  • If you have multiple domains on the same account, each one can have its own free SSL certificate.

Common problems

My website keeps showing “not secure”

The certificate may be installed but your website does not force HTTPS. Check your CMS configuration or add a redirect in .htaccess.

AutoSSL does not install the certificate

Check that the domain points correctly to miHosting’s DNS and that there is no pending propagation. If the problem continues, open a ticket with support.

I have a paid certificate that I want to use instead of the free one

You can upload your own certificate from the same SSL/TLS section of cPanel. Contact support if you need help with the installation.

Frequently asked questions

Does free SSL cost anything?

No. It is included in all miHosting hosting plans at no additional cost.

Do I have to renew it manually?

No. AutoSSL automatically renews the certificate before it expires.

Conclusion

In most cases you don’t have to do anything: AutoSSL installs your free SSL certificate as soon as the domain points to miHosting. If you want to check it or force the installation, go to SSL/TLS Status within cPanel and run AutoSSL.
