If you’re looking for the fast, hassle-free route, this is the way. 🛣️ Chatwoot has refined its installer so that, with a couple of commands, the server does all the heavy lifting for you. Let’s get it up and running in no time! ⏱️

🛠️ Action guide: Installation in 3 steps

Before you start, remember to log in to your server via SSH as the root user. 🔑

1. Download the official script 📥

This command downloads the latest installation assistant directly from the Chatwoot repositories:

wget https://get.chatwoot.app/linux/install.sh

2. Set up the permissions 🔓

For the file to be able to “run” on your system, we need to give it execution permissions:

chmod +x install.sh

3. Launch the installation! 🚀

Now all that’s left is to run it. The --install parameter tells the script to set everything up from scratch (database, Redis, Nginx, etc.):

./install.sh --install

Expert note: You’ll see the screen fill with text and processes. Don’t panic — it’s the server installing Ruby, Node.js, and configuring security. ☕ Take the opportunity to grab a coffee!

💡 The miHosting Pro-Tip

Watch out for your VPS resources. 🧠 Although the script is a marvel of automation, Chatwoot is “heavy” software. If you notice the installer getting stuck at the end or the panel running slowly, check whether you have SWAP memory (swap space) enabled. On a miHosting VPS, configuring 2GB of SWAP can be the lifesaver that prevents your server from restarting when there are many simultaneous chats. 🌊🆘

So you don’t miss anything: 📌

  • Domain ready 🌐: Make sure you have your subdomain pointing to your VPS IP before running the script, if you want the SSL (the green padlock 🔒) to be configured correctly the first time.
  • SMTP email 📧: Chatwoot needs to send emails to validate your account. Have your miHosting email account details handy to configure them at the end.
  • Security first 🛡️: Once installed, make sure your VPS firewall (ufw) only has the necessary ports open (80, 443, and 22 for SSH).
